LAW SCHOOL REVIEW: UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW (USL), RAYAT BAHRA UNIVERSITY

· Brief Introduction:


RayatBahra University also known as RBU, is a private university. Earlier the law department of the university was affiliated with Punjabi University, Patiala. It was registered as an independent University in 2014. Along with law school, the university has various other schools. In total there are 146 courses across 15 streams. University school of law is one of the primary departments of the university. Currently, several programs are running under the umbrella of the school of law such as LL.B, LL.M, PH.D, B.A.LL.B, B.Com LL.B, approved by bar council of India (BCI). Unlike the common perspective that LLB students are more often given less importance than students of integrated course, the department provides equal importance to every student irrespective of their program.

The University is located in Kharar, District Mohali, Punjab, India.

· Infrastructure:


A. Campus: The university has a sprawling campus. The classes are from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. After the classes, students are free to enjoy their campus life. Students are free to do anything; study, go for sports or other recreational activities. The campus also has a bank facility and atm provision. The hostlers benefit from this a lot. The campus is surrounded by many trees, which adds beauty to the campus. The law complex has a moot court hall, library, and a computer lab. The campus has access to WIFI.


B. Library: It has a central library with access to about 12000 books. The library is for students of all schools where they can pursue their interests. The law department has a separate library for law students. This library has access to numerous law books, bare acts, law journals, case books, etc. This provides students with an option to where they sit and study.


C. Hostel: It also provided in-campus hostel facilities for both boys and girls. It has an independent administrative block. Indoor facilities are also available such as gym, saloon, canteen, Laundry services, etc. for the use of students. The hostel has combined facilities for all the streams. This enables interaction between students of various fields. The day scholars are also allowed to avail the mess services.



· Academics and Faculties:

Prof Dr. Sukhdarshan Singh Khehra is Director of USL and Dr. Inderpreet Kaur is HOD. All the assistant professors are great. Some even impart knowledge with modern techniques of teaching. The faculty tries to inculcate at least one academic event in every semester.



· Administration and fees structure:


The Administration block of the university is common for all the schools. The structure is well organized but can be improved in future. Fee structure for a year is 85,000 for B.A.L.L.B, B.Com.L.L.B, and L.L.B; for L.L.M and Ph.D. it is 1.1 lakhs.



· Cafeteria:

University has many cafeterias. Each cafeteria provides different tastes to facilitate the students.


· Student culture and activities:


The department has students from various regions of India. Even some students are foreign nationals. This creates a diverse habitat. Similarly, in extra Curricular events when people from east India show their culture through the medium of songs and dance, and students from the south shows their culture, a different wave of happiness can be felt.


· Placement:

USL doesn’t provide with adequate placement facilities.


· Best Things:


The university has zero-tolerance for ragging. Even the policies relating to alcohol, drugs and such substances are very rigorous. Regarding security, the university is very safe. In the last four years, no instances of any kind of nuisance or violence has been witnessed.


· Worst Thing:


The university needs to focus on some issues such as online portal for result should be available but unfortunately it is missing. Administration can be improved.Overall the law department is well organized. If students want to reach highs, the faculty helps them with all their heart.
