LAW SCHOOL REVIEW: UNIVERSITY OF LUCKNOW

Brief introduction


The University of Lucknow was Founded in 1867, the University of Lucknow is one of the oldest government owned institutions of higher education in India. LU's main campus is located at Badshah Bagh, University Road area of the city and second campus is situated at Jankipuram. More than 160 colleges and institutes, located throughout the city and other surrounding areas are affiliated with LU. It is affiliated to the University Grants Commission, Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Distance Education Council (DEC). Other accreditations include the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE), Bar Council of India (BCI). It was affiliated to UGC in 1921.


Infrastructure


A. Campus:- The Law Faculty is situated in second campus, having a total area of more than 75 acres located on the Sitapur Road, Lucknow from 2002-03. The newly constructed three storied building has more than 100 lecture rooms, 2 model class rooms with smartboard, libraries, legal aid hospital etc. The Faculty has residential facilities for students and staff. A congenial atmosphere and environment have been created where professional excellence and human virtues are being cultivated.


B. Library-: There are separate libraries in all The faculties of University of Lucknow. There are 3 libraries in the Faculty of Law. One for LLB students, which named as Dr. R. U. Singh Library, one for Hon. Students and one for LLM students. The library is well staffed and well managed by trained librarians. In 2019 Faculty has launched E-library on students recommendation. Each and every student has provided his/her unique id and password so that they can access the E-library at any time from anywhere.


C. Hostel:- The campus has two Girl's hostel, two Boy's hostels, staff quarters and a well-equipped Canteen, Play-ground among others including Bank and Police outpost. Thus, the campus is a self-contained unit to provide all infrastructural facilities to teachers as well as students. The institute provides the best facility for students to study in home like environment.


D. Cafeteria:- A large and comfortable cafeteria is available and open during college hours. Refreshment makes the individual reenergize.

Academics and Faculties


The University of Lucknow is a traditional university. The Faculty of Law, University of Lucknow is a pioneer legal institution of India. Prof. C. P. Singh is the present dean of the Faculty of Law. It was established in 1921 with three teachers. Mr. Jag Mohan Nath Chak was its first Dean. The Post Graduate Diploma in Criminology was started in 1964. The Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Pollution Law, Consumer Protection Law, Labour and Personnel Management were started in 1994. The Post Graduate Diploma in Criminal Procedure and Advocacy was started in the year 1995. The Faculty has introduced LL.B. (Hons.) Five Year Course in 1995. The Faculty offers Undergraduate, Post Graduate, Doctoral and Post-Doctoral Programs. The Faculty has introduced CBCS System in LL.M. Programme. The Faculty is running a Centre of Excellence on Gandhian Dream of Litigation Free Village.


Admission Process & Fee Structure


Admission method is purely online. For filling up admission form the fee is 1000/application. After filling admission form every candidate have to qualify entrance exam. After qualifying entrance exam, they will call for counselling according to their rank.

LL.B 3 Year Programme Academic Fee (SC/ST Students Zero Fee) – 4565/semester

LL.B 5 Year Programme Academic Fee (SC/ST Students Zero Fee) – 25,580/semester

Student culture and activities


In the Law Faculty there is a body made by law students named as LUCC, which is the organizer of all the cultural programs in the faculty every year. There is also a moot court association named as LUMA(Lucknow University Moot Court Association), which organises inter-semester moot court competitions every year as well as National moot court competitions. Students of Faculty of Law are very active in moot court competitions as well as in cultural competitions. Placement cell also organises events in the gap of every 2-3 months. It organises article writing competitions, debate competitions, socio-film making competitions etc.


Placement

College provides college placement for Students. Faculty arranges interviews and placement fair also. There is also a separate placement cell in faculty of law.


Best thing

24×7 Security available at Campus and there is special discount For SC/ST Category of students and scholarship programs for financially weaker section. The Dean of the Faculty of Law always welcome new ideas from the students. He also made a WhatsApp group in which students can tell him problems which they’re facing in the faculty.

Worst Thing

The Faculty is situated almost 1 km away from the main road which is very tiring for those students who don't have their own vehicle. Though e-rikshaws are always available during college time.

Any Other

Admission to first year of the 3-year L.L.B. course and 5-year L.L.B. course is strictly based on merit, marks secured by the candidate in the qualifying examination.
