LAW SCHOOL REVIEW: JAMNALAL BAJAJ SCHOOL OF LEGAL STUDIES, BANASTHALI VIDYAPITH

· Brief introduction


Jamnalal School of Legal Studies is the law faculty at Banasthali Vidyapith, established in the year 2013 and inaugurated by former Chief Justice R.M. Lodha. It is one of its kind law department in India established in the University with a difference.



· Location

Banasthali Vidyapith is located in Tonk district of Rajasthan, India, 72 kilometres away from Jaipur on Jaipur-Kota Rd and is well connected by road as well as by railways. The nearest railway station is Newai (7.2 kms from Banasthali Vidyapith campus) and Jaipur International Airport is the nearest airport.

· Infrastructure


A. Campus: The campus is safe for girls and offers a good study environment. College is a fully residential women university. It has two playgrounds. The College also has its own hospital and two marketplaces.

B. Library: Law department have a double-storeyed library with more than 9000 books and a wide range of e-resources.

C. Hostel: It has approximately 52 to 55 well-furnished rooms and the food quality of hostel is good and they serve only vegetarian food.


· Academics and Faculties


The college staff is very good and helpful, and very supportive. All the teachers have a great knowledge about their respective subjects. They teach well. Along with daily lectures, there are various guest lectures and sessions. Students have to undergo for one or two months internship once in a year during the vacations. Students are taken to court visits with teachers, which gives practical experience of the subject.


· Administration and fee structure

One can get admission in the college by merit list, student required to have minimum 65% in their intermediate in any stream then they will be sent call letter for admission and you need to be present on the given date for admission along with one of the parents for signing the memorandum of the college and then other formalities for the admission. Fee for Law department is 1,09,000/- p.a.


· Cafeteria

The university have8 canteens in a campus of 850 acres.


· Student culture and activities

Banasthali hosts an Apaji fest of 3 days in November i.e. the founder’s birthday celebrated three days every year, which includes a dinner night and a cultural night. Banasthali conducts annual function and 7 days long Dandiya nights during Navratri.The law department has separate fest named “Nyayutsav”. It is a three-day extravaganza for the students with games, dance, dinner, music, academic events and of course food stalls. Therefore, Banasthali hosts total 8 fests every year.


· Placement

The department of law has its own internship and placement cell. Law course is added in 2013 only, so not much placements are conducted, that’s why every year only a few students get placed in various law firms. The recent tie-ups between the placement unit and firms show better placement opportunities in future.


· Best thing

One of the three original copies of the Indian Constitution is in Banasthali. It is the world’s largest residential university for women with 850 acres (3.4 km2) campus area. The founder of Banasthali Vidyapith was one of the members of the constituent assembly.


· Worst thing

Summers are absolutely scorching.


· Any other

Vidyapith offers scholarships to needy students under the need-cum-merit scholarship programme. The university education follows Five-Fold activities i.e. “Panch Mukhi Siksha” for its students to provide education regarding overall development of personality and also provides opportunities to participate in All India Youth Fest. Gym, Aerobics, various gaming, and yoga classes take place in the morning and evening.
