LAW SCHOOL REVIEW: Gujarat National Law University
· Brief Introduction:
GNLU, a premier national law university of India, with its motivated staff and committed students aims to provide best public and private legal service. GNLU contextualizes the latest policy and practical developments in arts, commerce, business administration, social work, science and technology. It offers BA/B.COM/ BBA/BSW/ BSC.LLB (Hons.) in addition to LLM and MBA programmes.
It is located on the Knowledge Corridor, Attalika Avenue, Koba, Gandhinagar 382007, Gujarat.
· Official Website:
Campus is the arguably the best of any law school in India, big, vibrant, green, magnanimous, simply put it is awesome. With the peacocks and langoors around in the lush greenery it feels like a resort. We have on campus grocery store, laundry, hostel, medical centre, gyms, badminton court, football court, volleyball court, cricket ground, basketball and lawn tennis courts, a recreation room packed with a TV, Chess, snooker, carrom, Table Tennis et al.
B. Library: It’s air-conditioned and fully packed not only with offline resources but numerous online resources and databases.
C. Hostel: This is in my opinion, the not so good part of the campus. Especially in the odd semester one is going to suffer from the heat since there is no air conditioning. Yes, 2.5 l p.a. fees for non-AC hostel at a top notch national law school with extremely good placements.
· Academics and Faculties:
Academics are really hard core as can be expected of any law school and most of the time goes in mooting, mid-sems, projects, vivas followed by end-sems and compulsory internships from first year itself. Faculties are really nice and leaders in their respective areas of study.
· Administration and Fee’s structure :
Administration is responsive and always listens to our concerns so much so that till now we haven’t missed the need of a student bar council and the not so formal batch representative system works to get our needs met. Fee structure is 2,36,000/- per annum for UG programme.
There is a cafeteria in addition to the mess which sells food on a paid basis. One can always go their if one is bored of the mess menu.
· Student culture and activities:
Student culture is well developed and the Student Activities Committee really takes care of all to ensure that complete personality development of an individual takes place in this institute of excellence.
We have really been doing good with placements with seniors getting PPOs from top law firms not only nationally but also international ones like Linklaters and Allen and Gledhill.
· Best thing:- Campus and coffee dispensers.
· Worst thing:- Hostels with no AC.
· Any other:
Our new Director Professor Dr. Shantha Kumar who took charge last year is really active and enthusiastic about taking GNLU higher up in terms of all parameters including ranking and placements. He is also really co-operative and seeks suggestions from all the students. This kind of inclusive administration in my opinion is surely going to take our university to new heights.
