LAW SCHOOL REVIEW: CENTRAL UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH BIHAR

· Introduction:

The university established under the Central Universities Act, 2009 (section 25 of 2009) as Central University of Bihar (CUB) and the name since changed by the Central Universities (Amendment) act 2014 to Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) is an institution of higher learning in the state of Bihar. The motto of this University is "Collective Reasoning".

The university's academic programme started functioning at a rented building in the premises of Birla Institute of Technology, Patna (BIT) in 2009. The zeal and the enthusiasm among administration, faculty, staff and students helped university to move ahead in the desired direction in the field of higher studies.

And now university has its own campus in Punchanpur Gaya where academics runs.

· Infrastructure:

A) Campus: The university spread in over 300 acres of land, in which most of the building is in construction.But those academics buildings are completed had well furnished. Every classes will runs on smart class.

B) Library: The university has developed a well equipped Central Library to cater to their information requirements of students and faculty for their academic accomplishments.The library has built a collection of more than 31000 books to support academic curricula, teching and research in various science, social science, law, etc. subjects including encyclopedias, handbooks journals, Newspapers and its archives.

The library subscribes to 108 quality print journals and magazines of renowned publishers from across the world and more than 8000 online journals. Besides, the library also subscribes to many online databases i.e. ISID database, World E- Book Library (WeB), Manupatra (full text databases for law), AIR Supreme Court Database, AIR High Court Database, Criminal Law Journal Database etc.

C) Hostel: The university offers hostels facilities for boys and girls. Every hostels room are three seaters with wardrobe, study table, chair, bed and matress. Hostel fee is Rs 9000 per semester. Mess charge will be pay by students which is around Rs 2300 per month.



· Academics and Faculties:

Although university was started in 2009 but school of law and governance was started in 2013. The university has adequate infrastructural facilities to provide the perfect ambience for interdisciplinary studies in law, in its true sense.The school of law and governance, CUSB, is offering three courses now i.e. 5Year B.A.LL.B.(Hons.), LL.M. One year programme, Ph.D. in Law. Law faculties are highly qualified and having teaching experience. Faculties are very cooperative. Legal aid, Moot court, and Parliamentary debate  organize by the members every year.



· Administration and Fee Structure:

Admission will be done on the basis of marks scored in entrance test. The name of entrance test is Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET). This exam is conducted every year in the month of May. Registration for entrance test is started from March and application form fee is Rs 800.

Academic fee structure is Rs 11280 including admission charge at the time of admission and per semester fee is Rs 7000.



· Cafeteria:

The university provides canteen facility located within the campus.The canteen serves breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner to the students.Utmost care is taken to provide hygienic delicious food and water.It caters to the students taste bud and is a great place to unwind in between the hectic lecture schedules.



· Student Culture and Activities:

The university organize sports festival every year in the month of march. Also on the occasion of Constitution Day School of law and Governance organize various competitions like debate, essay writing, quiz, painting, moot court etc.The university has a cultural committee coordinated by a chairperson. The committee organizes various cultural activities and events throughout the year which provides a platform to the students to identify their hidden talent and to develop themselves in the desired fields.



· Placement:

The university has a career counselling and placement cell which takes care of the campus placements and job opportunities for the students enrolled in various courses under different departments. some of the key responsibilities are:

  1) To organize the job oriented awareness related workshops time-to-time for the university students.

  2) To disseminate the job opportunities related information in the concerned centres / departments.

  3) To organize job fairs / career related fairs for the job seekers in the university premises.



Best Thing:

i. Strict discipline should be maintain.

ii. Anti-Ragging cell

iii. Grievance Redressal cell

iv. SPARSH: The university has set up Sensitization, Prevention and Redresal of Sexual Harassment for the prevention of sexual harassment in the university.



· Worst Thing:

The main canteen is situated at administrative block which is far away from academics buildings.No proper canteen in various academic building like Social Science Building, Science Building, Law Building etc.



· Any Other:

Smile Group which is a voluntary social service group mostly initiated by the students. The aim of this initiative is to research into the problems of the under privileged children and inspire them and to solve their problems by motivating them with the cooperation of parents, teachers and society.
