INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE @ ALL INDIA LAW STUDENT FEDERATION (ONLINE)
All India Law Student Federation
17th August 2019- 17th October 2019
Applied via Internshala, following which I was selected after a telephonic interview. Any interested individual can however send their CV to firstname.lastname@example.org if they wish to intern with them.
· FIRST DAY FORMALITY
Since this internship was an online one, there was no first day formality in particular, but initially, I was given basic tasks to help me ease into the internship.
· MAIN TASK
My main task was to prepare case briefs of landmark judgments as well as conduct research on pertinent and practical questions of law. The research topics usually referred to common disputes that arise in Families and rampant crimes usually, and were mostly relating to criminal law and succession laws.
· WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PEERS
I only ever interacted with one individual in the organisation, who was also the one who took my telephonic interview. Abhinav Sir was extremely accommodating to my shortcomings and help me improve on my weaknesses. Since many of the topics I got were new to me, he guided me if I ever erred in interpretation and guided me regarding the same.
No stipends are awarded for the same.
· BEST THING
At the time when I undertook this internship, the topics of research or the cases I got were ones that were related to those areas of law that I wasn’t acquainted with till then. That gave me an opportunity to interpret the law on my own, and hone my skills in interpretation and drafting of case briefs as well. Apart from this, when I actually got to study the topics as part of my academic curriculum, I had a more in depth knowledge and better understanding of the law, where apart from theoretical interpretation, I was able to achieve a practical outlook on application of law in general as well.
While conducting research, since the topics were related to practical everyday disputes, the amount of precedents on the same used to be vast, which I wasn’t able to cover within the deadline, which forced me to increase my speed and become more efficient in sorting out the relevant areas of law and precedent and helped augment in this sector as well. Lastly, Abhinav sir was extremely accommodating and helped me whenever I hit any road block. His guidance really helped me learn a lot from the internship.
· WORST THING
There was nothing bad per say and I got to learn a lot, however the only shortcoming was it being an online internship and led to some virtual shortcoming regarding communication in the beginning, which I was able to overcome after a while.
· OFFICE TIMING
Again, since it was an Online Internship, there were no fixed timings. I received consecutive tasks that I was required to turn in by the deadline, which was usually 2 days. The time given per task depended on the task itself, and though it wasn’t less for the work that needed to be done, it didn’t leave scope for laxing off. However, on special occasions, in event of having a genuine reason, prior intimation helped in procuring an extension for submission.
